The town of Ghemme in Piedmont lies to the south of Lake Maggiore, just a 40 min drive from Varese, and has a long-standing tradition for wine production – in fact Ghemme wine is now considered as a close rival to the more well-known Barolo. We will start our wine trip at the 'Cantine di Rovellotti' situated in a medieval castle right in the centre of Ghemme.

The castle is not a typical castle; rather it is a fortified medieval town dating back to the 12th century. The visit to the cellars of Rovellotti is quite unique, as we will have a guided walk through the citadel, passing through courtyards along the cobblestone streets and narrow lanes where the cellars are located. The walk takes about half an hour and follows the route of the grapes as they are turned into wine. After that there will be a wine presentation along with typical salamis and cheeses from the Novara hills and the Ossola Valley in a faithfully restored 17th century tasting room.

Next, we will move on to the 'Francoli Centre', a distinguished local liqueur distillery and wine producer. Here we have the opportunity to buy and taste excellent wines and interesting Liqueurs. But our tour does not stop there. For those who are interested, we will conclude our wine trip with a delicious meal at the romantic agriturismo 'Il Cavenago'. Cavenago is a 17th century villa, looking like a fortified castle, which overlooks the village of Ghemme from the hill. The proposed courses are the ones of the local cooking tradition, all made from their own agricultural products or with the ones coming from farms in the area; furthermore, they are served with wines from wine-growing farms of Novara hills.

Please come and join us for a fantastic afternoon/evening in Ghemme!
We will not only visit the wineries but we will also have the possibility to purchase as well.
