Over the past few weeks, Nathalie De Grace has given a number of lessons on how
to do Pysanky – the art of decorating eggs. Ukrainian women have been decorating eggs for centuries. In earlier times the eggs were decorated in a very special and ritualistic manner. The messages on the pysanky were to summon spring and to protect from evil. They were given as gifts to loved ones with individualised messages of good will. The beautiful folkloristic art of decorating pysanky was easily incorporated into the celebration of Easter. Many of the patterns found on the eggs have wonderful symbolic meanings. Today this craft is enjoyed by many women who want to connect with the past and enjoy each other’s company. The procedure is: choose a design, draft the design on the egg with a pencil, draw the pattern with "kistka" (the stylus used to write the wax on the egg), dye the egg (repeated several times), clean and varnish. As you can see, the results are beautiful! Thank you Nathalie for teaching and guiding us in a very nice and patient way, as well as for your support and hospitality! We will definitely will come back again for doing another egg! Dates:
